Masala Khichdi Recipe | How to Make Masala Khichdi
Hello guys! Today we are going to prepare a very special dish ” Masala Khichdi” in akuner’s kitchen. Khichdi is also know as khichudi or khichadi. Recipe of khichdi I learn in my childhood, at that time I was in a 6th standard. I love to eat masaledar khichdi with lot of veggies. It is very famous preparation in overall India.

There are many way to prepare a khichdi. You can also prepare khichdi with vegetables. In every household of India you will find various version to prepare the Khichdi, taste is also different in different home. The way to cook this recipe is also different in every household. I like to eat khichdi with vegetable.

Ingredients for Masala Khichdi
- 1 bowl rice
- 2 tsp cumin and mustered seeds
- 1/2 bowl tur dal
- 1/3 bowl masur dal
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1/2 bowl peanuts
- 1 chopped tomato
- 1 chopped potato
- 9-10 curry leaves
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 1 tsp coconut powder
- 1/2 bowl coriander leaves
- 1 green chili
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 5-6 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- 1 bay leaf
- salt
- water
How to Make Masala Khichdi?

Step 1: Take a rice, tur dal and masoor dal in one bowl, add 4 cup of water and wash it well. Again add the 4 cup of water and let this all soaked in water for 7 to 10 minutes, in meanwhile cut the onion, tomato, potato. Also make a paste of ginger, coconut powder and garlic with the help of grinder (Khalbata).

Step 2: Now take a cooker and heat the oil. Add curry leaves. cumin and mustered seeds in hot oil. we are going to add one green chili which for flavor only, so I am using less spicy green chili. Add green chili in hot oil. let it fry.

Step 3: Now it is time to add chopped onion and bay leaf in this oil and fry until onion turn into a golden brown color and get smooth texture. Then add chopped tomato and fry until it get a smooth texture. Let the tomato splutter the taste of it in oil.

Step 4: It is time to add ginger, coconut and garlic paste in this mixture. Fry and mix it well. After that add red chili powder, garam masala, corianader powder, turmeric powder, peanuts and salt in this mixture. Mix it well let this mixture fry. Add 2 cup of water and let the water boil.

Step 5: Add rice, tur dal and masoor dal in this water, mix it well and then add more 4 cup of water in it. After that add chopped potato and coriander leaves in this water, mix it well. Cover the cooker and cook the khichdi on high flame for 5 minutes after that reduce flame to low-medium.
Take 3-4 weasels. After 5-6 minutes switch off the gas. Your Masala khichdi is ready. You can serve papad, pickle, raw onion, spring onion, carat and many vegges with it, don’t worry you don’t need to cook this veggies, serve the raw veggies because it will increase the taste of masala khichdi as well as it is healthy to eat too. Don’t forget to pore 1 tsp ghee on khichdi.
Additional information
- Remember the ratio of water is upon you if you want little bit of dry khichdi then add 2 cup of water if you have taken 1 cup of rice and dal.
- you can also use veggies like cabbage, cauliflower and brinjal in this recipe.
- Khichdi is preparation in that you can add veggies as much as you want. The uses of spices and veggies is totally depends on you.
