Adding a small amount of sugar can enhance the taste and give this combination a unique sweet and sour flavor.

    In my post-graduation days, I used to live in a hostel where this Kadhi Pakora was a menu item for every Thursday dinner. This Kadhi was so famous among the north Indian students that if the cook skipped this item on some week, these students keep asking for it?

    I am a die-hard fan of this preparation. Whenever I think of this dish, I become nostalgic and it reminds me of one story from my childhood, which is very close to my heart. 

    When I was in class 5 or 6, my school time was 12 pm to 5 pm every weekday but on Saturday it was from 7 to 11 in the morning. I did not like waking up in the morning and go to school on Saturdays. My aunt convinced me to do so by showing the greed of cooking Kadhi pakora. On those days, the only inspiration for me to go to school on such early morning was that I will get Kadhi pakora to eat once I came back from school.

    Eating Kadhi Pakora with rice or Bajra Bhakri after returning from school was a blessing for me.

    We used to make ‘Mirchicha Thecha’ (chili paste) as a side dish with this delicious combination of Kadhi Pakora and rice or Bhakri. I really like to eat ‘Mirchicha Thecha’ with Kadhi Pakora. My aunt’s hand-cooked ‘Mirchicha Thecha’ has a unique and mouth-watering taste.

    Here I am sharing this kadhi pakora recipe directly from my aunt’s kitchen. I hope that you are also going to love the flavor of this delicious Kadhi Pakora.

    Ingredients for Kadhi

    • 1 Cup Curd
    • 1 Onion
    • ½ Cup Besan Flour | Gram Flour
    • 9-10 Curry Leaves
    • 1 Cinnamon
    • 3 Mint Leaves 
    • 1 tsp Hing
    • 2 Bay Leaf
    • 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
    • 2 tsp Turmeric Powder
    • 3 Dry Red Chili 
    • ½ Cup Coriander Leaves
    • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
    • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
    • 3 Green Chilies
    • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
    • 5-6 Garlic Cloves
    • Salt
    • 2 Cup Water
    • 3 tsp Oil

    Ingredients for Pakora

    • ½ Cup Besan Flour | Gram Flour
    • 1 Onion
    • 1 Green Chili
    • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
    • 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
    • Oil for frying
    • 2 tsp Coriander Leaves
    • Salt
    • Water

    Process to Make Kadhi for Punjabi Kadhi Pakora Recipe

    Step 1:- Take one mixing bowl, add curd in that bowl. Use a whisker to make it a smooth blend. Now add gram flour / Besan in this smooth curd. Also add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt and then mix them all together. Remember no lumps should form in this mixture.

    Step 2:- Take a mixer grinder bowl and add curry leaves, mint leaves, green chili, 1 tsp cumin seeds, garlic cloves and coriander leaves. Grind it in semi grind consistency.

    Step 3:- Heat the oil. Add curry leaves, cumin seeds, dry red chili. Cinnamon, bay leaf & mustard seeds. Let it all simmer in the oil. Add chopped onion Then add semi grind paste of curry leaves, cumin seeds, green chili, mint leaves, and garlic cloves. Mix all of it together and fry it well. Add water and let it be cooked.

    Step 4:- Add besan and curd mixture in the masala. Mix it and add water. It will now start looking like kadhi. Stir it continuously.  

    Step 5:- Let this kadhi get boiled on a medium flame. Meanwhile, fry the onion pakoras.

    How to Make Kadhi | Punjabi Kadhi?

    1. Take 1 cup curd.

    2. Gather whole spices.

    4. Add curd it in a mixing bowl.

    5. Blend it with the help of whisker. 

    6. No lumps should be formed. Now add besan in the curd.

    7. Also, add water.

    8. Blend it with the help of whisker.

    9. Make it smooth and add red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt.

    10. Mix it well.

    11. Add ginger, garlic, curry leaves, green chili, coriander leaves, mint leaves, and cumin seeds in a mixer grinder bowl.

    12. Grind it keeping a semi-grind consistency. 

    13. Heat the oil and add curry leaves, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds.

    14. Let it be fried well. Then add dry red chili, cinnamon, and bay leaf in the oil. 

    15. Now add chopped onion.

    16. Fry all together.

    18. Now add ginger, garlic, curry leaves, green chili, coriander leaves, mint leaves, and cumin seeds paste in the oil.

    19. Add turmeric powder.

    20. Mix it well and add water.

    21. Now add curd and besan mixture in the masala mixture.

    22. Mix all of these together and stir it continuously.

    23. Add water in the bowl in which we mixed curd and gram flour. Pour it into the Kadhi.

    24. Boil it for 10 minutes.

    25. Your Kadhi is ready.

    Kadhi is ready. Keep it aside. Heat the oil and start frying pakoras for kadhi. For cooking Pakoras, gather all ingredients in one place and start frying the Pakoras.

    The process of Making Pakora for Punjabi Kadhi Pakora Recipe

    Step 1:- We need thin-sliced onion for Pakora. Also, cut green chili and coriander leaves. Add cut onions, green chilies and coriander leaves in one mixing bowl.

    Step 2:- Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt into the onion. Mix them all together.

    Step 3:- Now add besan flour in this onion mixture. Sieve it properly. Mix all together.

    Step 4:- Add water in this bowl and mix it all together.

    Step 5:- Heat the oil and start frying Pakoras. Fry it until it turned into golden brown color. Your hot Pakoras are ready.

    How to make Pakora for Kadhi ?

    1. Cut the onion in thin slices. Also, cut green chili and coriander leaves.

    2. Add these onions, green chilies and coriander leaves in one mixing bowl.

    3. Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt in the mixing bowl.

    4. Mix them all together.

    5. Place powder sieving on the bowl and add besan flour in this sieving. 

    6. Sieve it properly.

    7. Mix all together.

    8. Add a little amount of water into the mixture.

    9. Mix it well.

    10. Heat the oil.

    11. Take a handful of the mixture and give it the shape of pakora and drop pakora into the hot oil by thumb and fingers.

    12. Fry these pakoras for 20 minutes.

    13. Fry until it convert into golden brown color.
